Pilgrimage Pathways: A Pilgrimage to Canterbury Cathedral
Mar 8-14 2025, price: TBC
Individuals coming to Canterbury Cathedral have described pilgrimage as a devotional practice and
journey to a place of spiritual significance. A pilgrimage to Canterbury Cathedral is truly an opportunity
to step out of our busy lives and into a time of quiet reflection and insights.
If learning about the roots and traditions of your faith, while steeped in the daily rhythm of a cathedral
interests you, then come join us on a once in a lifetime pilgrimage to Canterbury, England.
We will meet in Canterbury, England on Saturday, March 8th and conclude our experience on Friday,
March 14th. We will stay at The Lodge at Canterbury Cathedral, which will serve as our home base for
this week-long spiritual experience and intellectual journey.
Our days will revolve around the daily worship services at the Cathedral. Our time together will include
lectures by Virginia Theological Seminary faculty, Canterbury Cathedral clergy, staff and artisans. We will
learn about the building which Anglicans across the world call “the Mother Church.” We will visit various
sites in and around Canterbury, including St. Martin’s Church and St. Augustine’s Abbey. Of course, there
will be plenty of time for rest and reflection, along with opportunities to explore the city of Canterbury
on your own, or with new pilgrim friends.
Pilgrims will be responsible for making their way to London, England via airlines and airports that best
suit their needs. Once in London you will need to make your way to Canterbury via train or bus (helpful
travel details will be provided with registration).
Pilgrims should plan to arrive in Canterbury on the afternoon of March 8th and check into their rooms at
The Lodge. There will be a welcome program and dinner that evening.
Check out of the Lodge is on Friday, March 14th in the morning.
Canterbury Cathedral is working with us on a price for the pilgrimage that will include your room,
breakfast and dinner daily at The Lodge, as well as all fees for lectures and site visits.
Final pricing will be communicated to all in interested parties in late October along with an Itinerary
for the pilgrimage.
All pilgrimages are sponsored by FOCCUS, to which a special donation of $300 is made on behalf of each participant
It should be noted that the Cathedral and some of the sites we will be visiting in Canterbury may prove
difficult for those individuals with mobility issues. You must be able to navigate uneven surfaces, stone
and dirt pathways,
For further details and/or to reserve your place, please email Lanie Flanagan at
lflanagan62@gmail.com. Space is limited and reserved spots will be provided on a first come first serve
basis. Please let us know of your interest as soon as possible.
Final trip details will be available in the Fall, and any deposits due will be collected at that time.
We look forward to making this journey with you in 2025.
